Vere William Arend Obituary (1923

Vere William Arend, 88, of Baroda died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Royalton Manor, St. Joseph, of natural causes. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Baroda American Legion Post 345. The Rev. Christopher Noffke of Zion United Church of Christ, Baroda, will officiate. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at the Baroda American Legion Post 345. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion United Church of Christ, 9100 Church St., P.O. Box 10, Baroda, MI 49101. Mr. Arend was born on Nov. 11, 1923, in Baroda, where he was a lifelong resident. He retired as postmaster in Baroda, where he was past village clerk and a former Baroda firefighter. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a lifetime member of the Baroda American Legion. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Baroda. On Oct. 19, 1946, in Baroda he married Marian (Geike) Arend, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Dennis (Becky) Arend of Ann Arbor, Mich., Kevin (Janice) Arend, Keith (Marlene) Arend and Brian Arend, all of Baroda, and Bruce (Sandy) Arend of Dowagiac; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl (Marcia) Arend of Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Myrl Arend; a son, Gregory Arend, in 1999; daughter, Eileen Arend, in 1949; and four brothers, Lester, Lynn, Delbert and Ray.
