Raymond Lavern (Vern) Harner Obituary (1936 - 2017)

Raymond LaVern Harner, 80, passed away surrounded by loved ones on the morning of January 10, 2017 at the Hospice House in South Bend. IN. Vern was born September 13, 1936 in Shoals, IN to Clyde and Eldeana Harner. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Ressie Mae (Craig) Harner. He was married to Ressie on November 13, 1959. Vern attended Niles High School and later enlisted in the United States Army. While enlisted, Vern served with the 11th Airborne Division and the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Vern was also an avid fisherman and hunter, frequently traveling throughout Michigan and Ohio pursuing his passion. Surviving are his son, Ronald LaVern Harner of Niles; brother, Ronald Lee (Deb) Harner of Berrien Springs; grandchildren, Ronnie Marie and Blaine; nieces, Shannon Harner of South Bend, Rachel Harner of Mishawaka, Katie Harner of Berrien Springs; and nephew, Shaun Harner of Niles. Vern was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A graveside service for Vern will be held at 1 pm on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
