Elmer Rudolph Altergott Obituary (1936 - 2019)

Mr. Elmer Rudolph Altergott, age 83 years of Niles, Michigan (formerly of Buchanan, Michigan) passed away at 6:35 am on Friday, July 26, 2019 with family gathered around him at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, Michigan following a brief illness. He was born July 1, 1936 in Buchanan Twp to Martin and Katherine (Thierbach) Altergott. He attended Buchanan High School and worked on the family farm. Elmer was employed at Clark Equipment in Buchanan, Michigan and when the company moved to North Carolina, Elmer relocated as well. He retired from Clark's after 30 plus years. After retirement, Elmer liked to fix lawn mowers and tractors. But, his greatest joy was his family and friends. Elmer was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Niles, Michigan, where he would gather with his friends. In 1969, Elmer married the former Annette Metzger in Buchanan, Michigan. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage before her passing in 2012. Surviving family includes his step-daughter, Bridgette Ann Cora; close friend, Bryan Deitrich; grandchildren, Eric Kring, Andrew J. Kring, and William R. Cora; three great-grandchildren, a brother, Reinholdt "Curly" Altergott of Niles; sister-in-law, Sandra Altergott-Raber of Niles; special nephew, Scott A. Norris; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette J. Altergott; his parents, Martin and Katherine Altergott; brothers, Rube, Freddy, and Larry Altergott; and his sister, Vera Mae (Altergott) Rose. Visitation for Elmer will be from 6-8 pm on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Hoven Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at Noon on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Hoven Funeral Home.
