Deacon Melvin Bishop Obituary (1926 - 2015)

Deacon Melvin Bishop, 88, of Buchanan passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015 at his home. He was born on November 28, 1926 in Lake City, AR to Lepion and Lilly Bishop. Melvin was a U.S. Army Veteran. On February 1, 1955, he married Mattie Lawrence in New Madrid, MO. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mattie; children, Leonard (Mary) Bishop, Carl (Georgetta) Bishop, and Catherine Martin; brother, James Mitchel; sister, Mildred Boone-Banks; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Lepion and Lilly; brothers, Percy Bishop, Nepion Bishop; and sister, Annie Bishop. Funeral service for Melvin will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015 at New Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 112 Fulton St., Buchanan, MI 49107, with Pastor Glenn Paul Boyer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. at New Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan.
