Clara Leburta Nash Obituary (1922

LeBurta Nash was born to Burton and Violet Guthrie in Edenville, MI on Feb 9, 1922. She died February 12, 2012 at her Berrien Springs home. She grew up in Berrien Center. She met James R. Nash at Hylandale Academy in Wisconsin. They were married February 9, 1943 at Ft. Worden Army Base in Port Townsend, WA. After the war, they returned to Berrien County where they raised their five children. After Jim retired from the Berrien Springs School System in the 70's, they moved to Nowata, OK. LeBurta returned to the area in 2007, first living with her daughter in Buchanan, and then moving to Berrien Springs with her granddaughter, Lisa Sheppler. Her many interests included writing poetry, caning chairs, going to garage sales and St. Vincent DePaul's, painting, playing piano, spending time with the grandchildren, picking up cans for recycling, and gardening (not necessarily in that order). She was preceded in death by her parents, Burton Guthrie (1970) and Violet Guthrie (1998); brothers, Robert (Betty) Guthrie (2007) and Winn (Loetta) Guthrie (2001); and her husband, James (2006). She is survived by sisters, Jane (Harold) Hallock of Punta Gorda, FL and Johanna (Dale) Simpson of Berrien Center, MI; her children, Wanda Sheppler (Dewey) Murdick of Berrien Springs, MI, Juanita (Larry) Sheppler of Nowata, OK, Marla (Ron) Norton of Buchanan, MI, William Nash of Niles, MI and Lyndon (Claudia) Nash of Woodinville, WA; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the Buchanan Seventh Day Adventist Church, Buchanan, MI.
